What We Do

Supporting Social Studies Teachers

The West Virginia Council for the Social Studies is a teacher-administrated organization of professionals seeking to provide first-class educational support and experiences for social studies teachers employed in all corners of the Mountain State of West Virginia.  The leaders of WVCSS hail from highly rural to more urbanized school districts, are leaders in their schools and counties, and are committed to providing high-quality professional development at little to no cost to our members.  Since rechartering as an organization in 2017, the WVCSS has offered both in-person and virtual learning experiences, organized a yearly teacher’s conference, and has partnered with outside organizations such as the WV Department of Education, the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University, the White House Historical Association, and the Goethe Institut to offer wide-ranging learning opportunities.  Our mission is simple, we want West Virginia social studies teachers at all grade levels to be supported, nurtured, and given opportunities to thrive inside and outside their classrooms.
